PBOPcurrent

Pinewood Builders Oil Platform (PBOP) is an offshore oil and gas production facility roleplay game first opened on December 23, 2015. It was developed and published by sci-fi group JKR Productions as an official Pinewood game, being the first Pinewood game not to be developed by Pinewood.

It is also considered to be the first oil platform game in the sci-fi facility roleplay genre, and was the first to have an oil blowout event. The facility also has a helicopter route to the Pinewood Builders HQ in Tokyo, Japan.

Development History[]

The project was originally conceived by Pinewood member and Vice CEO of JKR Productions KelvinBlues1 in 2014 as a way of exploring a deviation from the typical research facility game concept. Its development drew the attention of then-Pinewood Board of Directors member SigmaTech, who showed interest in making the project an official Pinewood game. With an agreement between SigmaTech and JKR Productions CEO RobloxGuy6403, the game was announced to the public in January 2015, and was slated to have a soft opening by end-March. However, management issues between JKR and Pinewood caused several delays, resulting in on-off development all throughout 2015.

The project was finally opened on December 23, 2015 with a formal ceremony at JKR's event hall, reaching a peak player count of around 110 players on release day, and making it to what was the 11th page of popular games on Roblox at the time. For their work, KelvinBlues1 and RobloxGuy6403 were promoted as supervisors in Pinewood, and eventually were invited to become members of the Board of Directors. However, Kelvin would decline the promotion, choosing to focus on other work.

RobloxGuy6403 remained the sole developer working on the PBOP at the time, and following issues between him and the PB Veteran's Club, he resigned in 2016, taking the PBOP project with him. The project would later be abandoned and made open-source following a lack of interest within JKR to continue it.

In 2017, RobloxGuy6403 leaked the PBOP on the PBST Discord server as a joke, which was quickly snagged by TheAwsomeGuyRblx2. Both RobloxGuy6403 and TheAwesomeGuy came to an agreement to allow his copy of the game to be published on nostalgic and re-visitation grounds. Not long after, TheAwesomeGuy distributed the copy to ood23doc, who established a PBOP group and uploaded the game there. However, the group fell apart and was passed down to many different owners, some of which attempted to use the game as a cash cow. This made it difficult for Pinewood management to re-acquire the group, until a successful effort was made in 2020.

PBOP: Legacy

Shortly following the news of the successful acquisition, RobloxGuy6403 (now ChromeEight) made the PBOP closed-source again and allowed Pinewood Builders to continue development of the PBOP. The original game has since been branded as a Legacy version, with the intent of a new, completely overhauled game to be developed by XYLEM Technologies.

In 2023, maliismail and Vojtisekczech were promoted to Developers for PBOP's revamp. Shortly after this, PBOP started to receive semi-monthly updates, which included a shop with new items, new blowout system and server rebuilding, and new ranked items.

In 2024, PBOP gets a major revamp, including a major changes to PBOP's layout, badges, and even more shop items. Plans to develop a new PBOP game were effectively scrapped, intending to develop the original and updated game moving forward.
